Nothing is wasted, thanks to Peel Tech

Did you know that it is actually illegal to dispose of food waste into a public drain or sewer? That’s true across the UK.
It’s because the waste can quickly block drains, leading to more incidents of flooding and ‘fat bergs’. And potato peel is one of the key waste products for restaurants, hotels and chip shops, who might be peeling thousands of potatoes each month.
If they don’t comply, then the owners could face a fine of up to £40,000!
At The Real Fresh Chip Company we remove that problem, supplying you with perfect peeled chips, ready for cooking!
It’s important to stress there that we said remove, not transfer the problem.
How’s that?
At our processing plant we use the Peel Tech system, which allows waste-free water to enter the drains, keeping them legal, clean and odour free whilst safely retaining the peel and starch for recycling into energy sources.
The system was actually invented by Malcolm Wood, Director at The Real Fresh Chip Company.
It works by taking the waste from the potato peeling process, separating the waste skin ands potato starch and compacting to allow the waste to be removed for recycling.
The by-product is a bio digestate, which can be handled by a waste contractor, but we provide it to local farmers who can use it as an excellent and clean animal feed.
